Welcome to Sydney Jiu-Jitsu

About Us

At Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Eastern Suburbs our mission is to provide realistic world class martial arts techniques to whoever wishes to learn no matter what age or ability.

Our goal is to try to make them feel as though they belong to a privileged group of individuals who have discovered the many benefits of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (bjj) lifestyle. You will learn over time: Patience, Humility, Respect, Loyalty and self control.

Why us?
  • We teach the Original and the best form of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Our direct link to the Gracie family is through the founding father of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Helio Gracie.
  • It is Helio Gracie's’ son Royler who through his Humaita Academy, in Rio De Janiero brought Brazilian jiu-jitsu to the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. This was first through Professor Bruno Panno who studied there for many years and then later by professor Marcos Nevel who went on to run the academy whilst Royler was competing around the globe.
  • Professor Marcos Nevel is the Head teacher at Gracie Eastern Suburbs. Marcos was head teacher at Royler's’ Humaita Academy, in Rio De Janiero for 5 years before immigrating to Australia to continue to his life’s passion of teaching arguably the worlds most effective Martial art.
  • Our Academy prides itself on having a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We are all very respectful of one another and  build relationships that transcend the mat area and develop into true friendships.
  • We have a great beachside location with plenty of parking out the back of the club.

Its Only takes a few lessons

Once you empower yourself with a few simple Gracie Jiu Jitsu techniques you will be able to freely roll with everyone in the class. Although there are obviously different levels, everyone is able to actively participate with all members of the class due to the fact that a very experience black belt can still learn from a beginner by trying new things that don’t work on more experience  guys. You will feel from the very beginning that you are part of a learning/teaching environment.

Once you take the first step and start! You will feel as though you have found the ultimate pastime that quickly becomes a passion. It is a personal journey which will teach you a lot about the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (bjj) but also about yourself.
